A wee bit of fluoride makes teeth and dentists happy, we're told. Dr. Happy Tooth's smiley face turns into a frown when his favorite decay buster is busted as a killer. Before Crest, Procter & Gambles (P & G) experimental Teel toothpaste with sodium fluoride, actually caused cavities in 1940s tests. (1) Teel was scrapped in favor of Crest, with stannous fluoride. In 1955, Crest received the American Dental Associations (ADA) seal of approval generating loads of money for P & G.
